When Carlie Heather and her partner, James started to think about buying their first home, their approach to getting a home loan didn’t go much beyond chatting to their childhood bank for a mortgage.

“I had thought that it was way better to approach my bank directly because I was an existing customer with them for over 20 years they would give me better service, and deals than if I started again with a brand new bank,” Carlie said. “Unfortunately I was shocked to find this was not the case.”

Carlie and James, were planning to get married in the next few years and live in the inner suburbs of Brisbane, but they had a major challenge to overcome: there was so much information available on the internet, and what they had been told by their friends that they had become overwhelmed and confused exactly where to start.

“We were just looking for some good advice and after seeing our bank we ended up more confused, they just wanted to sell us into their home loan and didn’t give us any guidance on the process, how it actually works when buying a home or even how to deal with Real Estate Agents”, explains Carlie.

After getting a referral from a friend, and doing some of her own research online the couple contacted Nathan Vecchio, a mortgage broker at Hunter Galloway in Brisbane.

Simplifying the process

From their very first meeting, James says, Nathan made the process incredibly simple and put them both at ease, and even before the meeting provided them with detailed Guides for First Home Buyers, and information to make them feel comfortable.

Nathan quickly analysed their situation, and after taking a look at their savings history and jobs he compiled a short list of suitable loan products and banks.

“We were both really surprised by how much work Nathan did for us, and how fast he was able to do it!” James was so happy with how clear Nathan’s communication was saying, “I spoke to Nathan the day after we met, and that same day he came back to us with a few different options”.

“Even before we met, we had given Nathan our information and he took care of the whole thing, it was such a simple and smooth process.”

Best still, Nathan was able to help give them an overview of the entire home loan process, walk them through the contract of sale and tips on negotiating with real estate agents giving both Carlie and James some valuable insights into the entire home buying process.

“I don’t think that this could have been any easier,” James said of the overall experience with his mortgage broker.

“It was all the little things Nathan did, he gave us access to RP Data Property Reports and questions to ask the real estate agent which armed us with the information we needed to go out and buy our home.”

And once the couple had found a home, their mortgage broker Nathan was able to take care of things that the couple admitted they “wouldn’t even know how to deal with,” adds Carlie and after settlement has kept in touch with the couple with regular contact with newsletters and annual mortgage reviews to make sure they are always getting the best deal and service.
