About Nathan

Nathan started in mortgage broking in 2015, leaving a career in banking to join his brother Josh at the company they had just founded. He is a director of Hunter Galloway and its most-awarded broker: the Finance Brokers Association of Australia named him Finance Broker of the Year nationally in 2018 and 2019, and in Queensland in 2017 and 2018.

Asked in 2018 what the award-winning years had in common, his answer was about routine rather than talent: "For me consistency beats intensity, and it starts with the small things." Early on that meant eleven calls before 11am, every day. As the business grew, the same discipline went into the process — Hunter Galloway's clients get a status update every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which is a policy that came from this side of the business.

Nathan works across the full range of residential lending, and takes on a share of the harder files: applications that have already been declined somewhere else, or where the income does not present neatly on a payslip.

What Nathan works on

  • First home buyers

Working out a realistic borrowing capacity and deposit target before a property is chosen, and which lender will treat that particular situation most favourably.

  • Refinancing

Whether an existing loan is still competitive, and what changing it would actually cost — including the cases where the answer is to stay put.

  • Investment property lending

Loan structure across multiple properties, how each lender treats existing rental income, and keeping future borrowing capacity intact.

  • Self-employed and complex income

Applications where income comes from a business, contracting, or several sources at once, and standard payslip-based assessment does not fit.

  • Previously declined applications

Files another lender or broker has already knocked back — identifying what caused the decline and whether a different lender assesses it differently.
